The Richway Biomat® is a medical device that is often prescribed for injury recovery when applying heat is beneficial.  The Biomat® is different from a typical heating pad, as the far infrared rays penetrate deeper into the body than a typical heating pad, which allows the warmth to get deep into the tissues and muscles, improving mobility.  The warmth draws more circulation to the area where the heating pad is applied, which accelerates the healing.  Some people report greater mobility or pain relief for several hours after using the Biomat.

Trainers, Physiotherapists  and Athletic Therapists often recommend the Biomat® to professional athletes  to accelerate healing after an injury or to help warm up to prevent injury as well.

Some people who have been injured a long time ago, also get relief from pain or stiffness with the support of the Biomat®.  It’s such a wonderful way for people to regain their quality of life.

One thing that customers appreciate about the Biomat® is its size.  It’s large (the Mini Biomat® is 19 ” x 30″ and the Professional Biomat® is the size of a massage table), and allows you to apply soothing heat to more of your body at once.  In the above image, you see Jennifer sitting with the Mini Biomat wrapped around her leg, which is really helpful when you have a knee or ankle injury.  You can also wrap the Mini Biomat around your hip, shoulder or even wrap your arm inside if you have an elbow injury.

There are multiple heat settings, so you can adjust the intensity of the heat. The timer allows you to have the heat on for 2 -4 -8 or 12 hours, with a safety feature of stepping down the heat if it is set above 113F for more than 4 hours.  And of course, you can always turn of the heat at any time, so you can have a 20 minute session with the amazing heat of the Biomat.

The Professional Biomat is large enough to sleep on, providing overnight relief. And when you use the timer feature, you can have the heat on for the beginning of your sleep and turn off after a few hours.

It’s always best to consult with your health care practitioner, as some injuries are best alternating between cold and hot, or no heat at all.  They will also recommend the best temperature setting and duration for using the Biomat.

Claiming the Biomat for Workplace Injury or Car Accident Injury

Because the Biomat® is a FDA approved medical device and a Health Canada Class II medical device, if you’ve suffered an injury due to a car accident or workplace accident, the cost of a Biomat may be covered in your claim to support your rehabilitation.  Several of my clients have received their Biomat through a claim.  Contact your insurance representative to discuss if the Biomat is eligible through your WSIB, Workers Compensation or Car Insurance (MVA claim).

If you are receiving treatment through a healthcare practitioner who is processing your MVA claim for your injury after a car accident, you can speak to them about the Biomat.  You can share this brochure with them and contact us, for additional information to provide to your health team member and help educate them on the benefits.  The Biomat compliments so many modalities, allowing your body to get more out of the treatments you may already have as part of your injury recovery plan.  Sometimes a letter is required from your medical doctor as well.
