If you have someone you care about who is regaining their health during a hospital stay, and you would like them to use a Biomat® to support their healing, you may be wondering what size of Bio Mat is best to use on a hospital bed.
First, the Biomat® is a US FDA Approved Medical Device
In general, I would say that a Professional Sized Biomat® is best for a hospital bed but, please check the dimensions to be sure! The Professional Biomat® is 27.5” x 72.8” which is narrower than most hospital beds.
The Professional Biomat® is flexible, so it will bend as the adjustable bed, head or feet, is raised or lowered. It will move with the patient easily.
You may have also been considering the Mini Biomat®; and that will work well, if you will be putting it on top of someone on a hospital bed, or wrapped around a particular area. However, I believe you will find that if you were to try to use it under someone while on a hospital bed, that it will shift around a lot as the bed is moved up and down in position, and it will be cumbersome to try to move the Mini Biomat® while the individual is in the bed.
I don’t recommend using a Mini Biomat® on a hospital bed.
Ideally, this is what I recommend for using a Biomat® in a hospital bed for a long term period (i.e. weeks- months):
I believe that this will provide the best Bio Mat experience in a hospital environment.
One extra piece of equipment that would be helpful is a small step stool to put the Biomat® Control Unit on. It takes up a lot of space on the bedside table, and in a hospital you wouldn’t want it sitting on the floor.
If the person using the Biomat® is going to have someone setting the temperature and timer settings for them, then having the Control Unit sit on a step stool next to the bed, out of the way, and up off of the floor, would be something to consider.
The Biomat® should be used with medical practitioner’s supervision. They will need to monitor the patient’s condition and work with the patient to recommend heat settings and duration for their particular situation.
If the hospital bed is located in a medical facility (hospital or long term care facility), you may need to get the Biomat® approved by the medical facility
