Can I Use a 120V Biomat® in a country with 220V Electricity

220V and 120V adapter

If you are travelling with your Biomat®, you may be wondering if you can use a 120 V Biomat® 7000 MX (Professional or Mini Biomat®) in a country with 220V electricity.

When I spoke to the Technical Department at Richway, they advised against using a 120V Biomat® in a country with 220V electricity, unless you have a step-down converter.

This is because the technology in both the control box and the Biomat® is designed specifically to be used with 120V or 220V electrical currents. Simply plugging in an adapter so your plug will fit into the wall will not be sufficient.  You need a step-down converter.  *** DO NOT USE AN ADAPTER LIKE WHAT IS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE IN THIS ARTICLE****

Be sure to select a converter that can accommodate the watts of your Biomat® (see the back of your Biomat® controller for the number of watts your Biomat® uses).

If you were to plug your 120V Biomat® into a 220V outlet with only an adapter for the plug, you will run the risk of shorting out the control panel and the Bio Mat itself.

It is very important to ensure that you order the correct Biomat for the electricity you have in your particular home.  In some countries there is 220V available in some areas, and 120V electricity available in other areas.  You need to look at what your power requirement is in your home or office.  If you are not sure, please ask someone to help you confirm what type of electricity you have.  If you order the wrong Biomat, you will then either need to return it and get the proper model (you will incur shipping expenses), or you will need to purchase a power converter (not adapter).

If you have more questions about the Biomat®, please feel free to contact me.

I purchased a biomat when living in America. I just moved to Sicily and want to know how I can use my mat here. Is there a safe converter or transformer I can buy?

      Hi Toni,
Thanks for your message. What model of Biomat do you have? You will need to look at the tag on the back of the Biomat and look at the electrical usage of your model, because it will impact the capacity of the converter you need. You cannot use just an adapter, you need to use a step converter because of the electrical draw of the Biomat. You can find one on Amazon.
